Volleyball

VolleyballVolleyball in Scottish Universities is a developed programme of a high competitive standard.

The men's and women's SUS leagues are both tightly-contested. Each league comprises two divisions of six teams from throughout the Scottish Universities, with promotion and relegation at the end of each academic year. The winners of the league - which is played on Sundays from October through to January - are crowned Scottish Universities Champions and the best teams from the league also qualify for British Universities knockout competitionsagainst the best of the University teams from across the rest of the UK from February onwards.

The Scottish Universities Championship - an open cup competition - takes place annually in February, with a free draw amongst all Universities. In the summer months, there are more relaxed competitions, often including a Mixed Cup, a Beach Volleyball Championship on Portobello Beach and a (native) Scottish Students vs. Rest of the World fixture.

The Scottish Volleyball Association and SUS Volleyball enjoy a good and productive relationship with many stars of the Scottish National League also performing well for their Universities on a regular basis.

At the start of each academic year, there is a Development Weekend for Student Club Officials, including basic coaching and officiating courses and the annual Captains meeting - helping to ensure that all volunteers are trained to run their Clubs and host fixtures effectively and guaranteeing quality in the sporting programme.
