Scottish Universities Tennis is a strong force at team and individual level. There are two highly competitive leagues within SUS Tennis with nine institutions fielding teams in them. League fixtures run from October through to February with the potential for successful teams to go on and compete in British Universities and Colleges Sport knockout competitions, against the best of the rest from the United Kingdom. The best Scottish teams compete with some success too - with the best teams playing in BUSA Premier Leagues and gaining high placings in the National Championships.
Future plans include the development of a Scottish Universities Individual Championship in 2007.
Stirling University is fortunate enough to be home to the Scottish National Tennis Centre. With two outdoor clay courts currently under development alongside two further indoor courts, this central facility will be of fantastic use to the Scottish Universities set-up. Accordingly, Scottish Universities Tennis maintains a good relationship with the National Governing body, and Tennis Scotland is to have additional offices at the expanded National Centre. The BUCS finals are set to be held at Stirling University in 2007.
Former stars from the Scottish Universities set-up include Colin Fleming, who is making his way up the world rankings - currently ranked inside the top 500 for singles, and top 200 in doubles.
