Scottish Universities Swimming is administered by the Scottish Universities Swimming Association (SUSA) on behalf of SUS. SUSA is affiliated to the Scottish Amateur Swimming Association, and has ten Scottish Universities in membership. Each year, the Captains of the University Swimming Clubs elect from amongst themselves a President and Honorary Secretary at their Annual General Meeting in February, who run the programme throughout the academic year. The SUSA President will also act as the SUS Sports Development Coordinator for Scottish Universities Swimming.
Many Scottish Universities boast excellent swimming facilities and the swimming programme has a fiercely competitive history, having seen many very fast times being posted by Scottish Students throughout the years. There is a Winter League for both Men’s and Women’s Swimming, with each University competing against one another in weekly matches. The combined winners of the league qualify for the BUSA Team Final, to compete against the best in the UK for the title of BUSA Champions.
The Scottish Universities Championships are held annually in February, with individual winners not only crowned Scottish Universities Champion in their event, but also selected by the SUSA President to be part of the Scottish Universities Team to compete against Welsh and Irish Universities in the Celtic Nations Championship. This competition takes place in Glasgow, Cardiff or Galway, running concurrently with the Celtic Nations Water Polo Championship and culminating with a Ball in the evening.
In addition, during the academic year, teams from each of the Scottish Universities also take part in the Stirling Sprints event, hosted by the University of Stirling, and the British Universities Sports Association Short and Long Course Championships.
