British Development Snowboard Cross Team rider, Tim McGregor (26, Glasgow) recorded his best performance in an international Snowboard Cross competition finishing 6th at the World University Games in Harbin, China.
Despite choosing the wrong wax, Tim qualified for the finals in 16th position. The heats were tough – Tim having to battle through the field to progress through the rounds. In the semi finals Tim drew the worst lane. It was physical race with one competitor going down half way down the course and a second later disqualified for missing a gate.
In the small finals (to decide positions 5-8) Tim was again given the worst lane. After being squeezed out at the start he managed to pass two of his competitors further down the course, resulting in Tim finishing 6th.
Tim commented “I’m pretty stoked with the result! It was a tough competition but I’m pleased with how I’ve ridden and also the points I’ve picked up. Hopefully this will allow me to qualify for World Cup competitions.”
Fellow Team GB athlete, Ivy Taylor, also finished 6th in the ladies event. This was Ivy’s first competition this season and means the Snowboard Team have got their campaign at the World University Games off to a great start.
Both athletes are now preparing for the remaining events of the competition which runs until the 28th February.
