University Curling Day Held at Dewars Centre, Perth a Great Success!

SUS and the Royal Caledonian Curling Club (RCCC) jointly hosted a University Curling Day at Dewars Centre, Perth on Wednesday 26th November.

A fantastic response was received with 47 students in attendance. RCCC Development Officer Claire Milne took 7 new curlers onto the ice (including the SUS Sports Manager) for the first time, all of whom appeared to have a natural talent for the game.

10 teams represented by 9 universities competed in the Bonspiel which was won by Robert Gordon University with an impressive 9-0 scoreline.

The main aim of the event was to establish better links between RCCC, SUS and University Clubs & curlers. Stew Fowlie (SUS) and Judith McFarlane

(RCCC) provided a short presentation on the aims of SUS & RCCC and held an open discussion regarding the University league and competitive structure as well as future possibilities within coaching and club development.

Lots of great thoughts and ideas were shared and a development group including student representatives will now work together to build on Wednesday's success, with an initial meeting planned for the new year.

SUS would like to thank everyone who made the effort to attend and give special thanks to Jamie Dick, Laura Morris and David Hibberd who were all involved with planning for Wednesday's Open Day.
