Lacrosse is a relatively new introduction to Scottish Universities Sport, and, at the moment, the SUS programme is limited to the Women’s form of the sport.
Competition throughout the year focuses on the Scottish Universities League, with fixtures played both home and away, on Wednesday afternoons from October through until January. The most successful teams in the league qualify for the later rounds of the British Universities Sports Association Lacrosse knockout competitions, against the best university teams from across the UK.
In October, the Scottish Universities Tournament takes place, incorporating a trial match for the Scottish Universities Lacrosse Squad. Following the trials, a SUS Lacrosse Squad is selected. This Squad then play practise matches against Scotland U19 and the Home Scots, before the SUS team takes on the rest of Britain in the BUSA Territorial Championships - a contest in which SUS boasts an excellent record. Many Scottish-based students are selected for the British Universities Representative Team off the back of their performances in this event.
Universities also have success in Scottish National Lacrosse Leagues, contributing to the growth of the Sport as a whole within Scotland as they do so. In addition, a number of University-based players represent Scotland or other nations on the International stage.
