Fencing

FencingScottish Universities Fencing is administered by an association of the Fencing Clubs in Scottish Universities. The Scottish Association of Student Fencers (SASF) elects a President and an Honorary Secretary, as well as Men’s and Women’s Captains for the Scottish Universities Fencing Teams, and is charged with the running of the Scottish Universities Fencing programme.

The Scottish Universities Fencing League is contested centrally, with all fixtures taking place over one weekend event - usually in November. There are two divisions for both men and women, with promotion and relegation from year to year. The most successful teams qualify to take their place in the draw for the British Universities Sports Association knockout fixtures, against the best university Fencing teams in the UK, running from late February onwards.

Outwith this league structure, there are also two individual championships. The Beginners' Championship is a contest for the student fencer with less than two years competitive experience of the sport, and which forms an easy introduction to competition. The Scottish Universities Championship is the next contest - for the experienced fencer to demonstrate his or her individual skill.

The SASF Captains then select a Scottish Universities representative team, using the Individual Championships as a guide to form and standard. In a new competition format, this Scottish Universities team takes on teams from English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Irish Universities in a new 5 Nations Championship event.
