Scottish Universities provide a safe environment for training and competition in the sport of Boxing, whether for experienced boxers or newcomers to the sport. All Clubs are affiliated to Amateur Boxing Scotland. Amongst the experienced Boxers within Scottish Universities, there are a number who have proven themselves to be fighters of some repute, with the university sphere counting former Champions amongst their sporting alumni.
In competitive terms, students are well catered-for. For up to ten bouts, students can fight in a special novice class, before graduating to the open classes. Each University is permitted to enter any number of boxers in each category at the Annual Scottish Universities Championships, where there are a full card of contests right through the weight categories.
Female Boxing is becoming increasingly popular, both competitively and as a form of gym-based training.
In addition, Scottish Universities take their place in the BUSA Championships, contesting British Universities titles; as well as in the combined British and Irish Students Championships each year. Some institutions also take part in their own popular and friendly contests.
