BasketballBasketball in Scottish Universities is a popular sport, and the University teams are full of players of a very highly quality. SUS supports both a Men’s and Women’s League, both of which are full of exciting Basketball of a great standard.

Fixtures between universities take place on weekly Wednesday evenings from October onwards, with the most successful teams going on to qualify for the next stage of competition. In the knockout stages of the British Universities Sports Association competitions, the best Scottish teams compete against the best of the rest from universities around the British Isles.

In addition, there are hopes to develop a Scottish Universities Knockout Cup Competition to be played in the New Year. Trials for the Scottish Universities Basketball Squad take place in February, with selections based on performances in this event and all known form. Competition for places in the Scottish Universities teams is fierce, and the squads selected represent Scottish Universities Basketball with some distinction in fixtures against English, Welsh and Northern Irish Universities.

SUS Basketball enjoys a strong relationship with the national governing body, and is appreciative of the excellent coaching support which the Scottish Universities team enjoys. Additionally, a number of students play Basketball for teams in the Scottish National League as well as for their institutions.
