Archery is a growing sport in Scottish Universities, which combines incredible individual skill in a team context. The SUS Archery scene comprises a number of very talented individuals, as well as a large number of novice and intermediate archers in a supportive environment which is conducive to progression in the sport.
There are eight institutions which regularly shoot, and a number of SUS Archery events throughout the year. In addition, each team takes part in the various British Universities events, often with some success.
A Scottish Universities training day takes place in October, which allows all the archers from Scottish Universities to come together, socialise, enjoy their sport and learn from one another. In addition, the SUS Novice Championships, for those who have been shooting for less than 12 months, takes place in December, and provides newcomers to the sport with their first taste of competitive archery.
Further, there are the Scottish Universities Indoor and Outdoor Championships which take place in March and May respectively, with the winning University being crowned Scottish Universities Champions in each case.
In addition, a new head-to-head competition is currently under development for the New Year. This will operate as a handicapped individual knockout Championship, with no team element, and competitors aiming to put up the best performance on the day in order to win the event.
